Kes forms Preen Line inspiration

This year marks the 45 years since the release of Ken Loach's gritty screen adaptation Kes. Based on the novel A Kestrel for a Knave, the film's protagonist, yorkshire working-class bullied schoolboy Bill, who with little hope in his life shows the compassion in training his pet falcon that he is not in his struggles of everyday life. Having recently re-watched the film it is clear that although over 4 decades have passed, the glimmer of escapism in the character's story is one that continually resonates and inspires me without the slightest sprinkling of fairy-tale.
