At home with Painter and Singer Magdalene Fores as we pick her brains about her style choices and favourite artists whilst she models the resort 19 collection.
If you could sum up Preen Line as a brand in a sentence, what would
that go like?
Grunge’s finest glad rags
In terms of shopping, impulse buy or investment item?
I wish I could say investment, but my wardrobe is a hangover of my overly optimistic shopping trips in Brighton’s charity shops. The few investment items that have earned a permanent slot on the clothes rack are what I wear in public.
Last item of clothing you gave away, and why?
A knitted hat, 52 of them actually.
Where did you grow up?
I was born and grew up in West Meon, Hampshire, but I spent half of my teens on the 67 bus to Winchester.
Saturday night: going out or staying in?
I am a staying in kind of lady, unless it’s someone’s birthday.
Where is your favourite destination to Holiday?
Best piece of advice you've been given but completely ignored?
Never date a muso
Do you think your work has affected the way you dress?
Only so far as, I mustn’t get attached to anything white remaining white, or anything expensive remaining so. The things that I’d cry to see fingerprinted in oil paint rarely see the light of day.
What was your journey like getting into art?
A series of happy accidents, involving some old wood, unemployment and an Italian butcher
What's next for Magdalene Fores?
Working towards my next exhibition of works on paper which will hopefully happen sometime next year, rehearsing for more gigs with the band, and after learning the ropes at a Sunday knitting circle, completing my first jumper…
