Muse/Part 2: Cassie Smart
Before she began traversing the globe finding your next season wardrobe, Cassie Smart was busy growing up in rural England: a start to life that she attributes her unapologetic sense of style to. Here, in the second part of her Preen Line diary, she tells us about her style inspirations, how she gets dressed and what her favourite piece from the Preen Line shoot was.
How has your background and where you've grown up shaped your style?
Growing up in the countryside, there are many eccentric people to influence and inspire you. You grow up being confident in your own skin and interested in many different things.
What's your favourite item from the Preen Line shoot, and why?
I love the snake print chiffon dress, it’s a great investment piece for wearing in the day with an oversized knit and velvet flats, or in the evening with platforms. A piece that works well for multiple occasions. (Its available at Matchesfashion.com)
What three words would you use to describe your personal style?
Evolving, confident and chunky flatforms.
What person has had the greatest influence on your personal style and why?
I would be lying to say I had just one. I love films of all genre’s and looking through old publications, especially magazines like, i-D and Self Service. to name one, I guess Chloe Sevigny to inspire my style. These all had a big impact on driving me into a career in fashion
What's your process for getting dressed - shoes first? Weather check?
Met Office App then dress for the day.
How do you like your clothes to make you feel?
Once I am dressed I don’t really want to have to think about my outfit again. Being comfortable, confident and effortless is important, but I am quite bold in my wardrobe choices.
What's the most important piece of style advice you've been given?
To always be comfortable in what you are wearing. In this industry we can spend a lot of time in airports and we go straight onto buying appointments - so we need to get it right the first time.
