Muse/Part 1: Alya Mooro

She runs a super popular hip-hop night, writes for Grazia, MTV and Hunger (amongst loadsa others) and is a prolific blogger. When does this week’s Preen Line Muse sleep?

We managed to pin the lovely Alya Mooro down for a shoot at her gorgeous Earls Court flat (which also doubles as her work place) to talk month-long birthday celebrations, Kim Kardashian… and which superstar’s wardrobe she’d love to steal for a day…

What are you up to at the moment?

I’m currently working on my blog and trying to get loads of commissions in ahead of the summer months when things are no doubt likely to slow down. It’s also almost my birthday! My birthday is like my favourite day of the year and often ends up being a birthday week or (to the annoyance of pretty much everyone around me) birthday month!

Tell us a bit about what you do - the best/hardest/coolest thing about your job?

I’m a freelance journalist and blogger. I also run a monthly hip-hop and RnB night called The Come Up with two of my best friends. The best part of my job is pretty much also the hardest – having the freedom and flexibility to do what you want, when you want. Staying motivated when you can pretty much work from bed in your pajamas is tough sometimes! The coolest thing is probably all the amazing places I get to travel to and the inspiring people I get to meet and chat to, all under the guise of work!

What's your favourite item from the Preen Line shoot, and why?

I’m in love with the fur jacket! The contrast of the bold, vivid colours and classic cut make it such an interesting piece. Plus it’s super cosy for what’s bound to be another fureezing London winter.

What three words would you use to describe your personal style?

Sassy, Urban and Minimal

What person has had the greatest influence on your personal style and why?

Ooh, that’s a tough one! I think I’d have to say Kim Kardashian, post Kanye West. Yes, at times there have been a fashion fail or two (particularly pre-Kanye!) but she revolutionized dressing for a more curvaceous body, and has given me ample inspiration with her simple yet elegant styling. The pencil skirt, tight top combo has been one I return to time and again.

If you could swap wardrobes with someone for a day, who would it be and why?

Rihanna! That’s not to say I would have the balls to rock some of the outfits she does, but it would definitely be fun to try!
