In terms of shopping, impulse buy or investment item?
I think it’s important to have your basic go-to items but when I shop I usually have a garment in minds such as a jacket or occasion dress which tend to be investment pieces that are a bit more expensive because of their fabric or embellishment.. so far it’s always been worth it.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the Staffordshire in the Midlands. I lived there until I was 18 then I moved to London to study Fashion Communications and have lived here ever since. I get quizzed about where I’m from a lot as I have a Black Country twang in my accent when I speak. Sometimes people aren’t sure where the Black Country is so I usually describe it through two words; Peaky Blinders.
If you could sum up Preen Line as a brand in a sentence, what would that go like?
A romantic, floaty, grunge fantasy.
Last item of clothing you gave away, and why?
A pair of socks…. I love socks so it was quite painful and I was reluctant to do so as they were brand new. I still haven’t had them back… if you’re reading this you know who you are.
You can have access to anyone's wardrobe - dead or alive - for one hour. Who is it?
Mary Quant (but I would need it for more than an hour)
Saturday night: going out or staying in?
I’m one of those people who would say I’m staying in for a quiet night and then almost definitely end up out through a strange series of events and some smart manipulation courtesy of my friends.
What is a day in the life of Elizabeth like?
Each day varies from the next depending on whether I’m designing, writing or modelling but I can’t start the day without a coffee and a cuddle from my cat Michael.
What's next for Elizabeth Jane Bishop?
I’m working on a collaboration with the incredible visual artist Tishk Barzanji (https://www.instagram.com/tishkbarzanji/)
I have a medical condition called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) which i’ve had since the age of 2. It’s a long-term, fluctuating, neurological condition that affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide. There tends to be a lot of negative stigma surrounding the condition but I aim to change that. The project is titled “Invisible Me” and we will be selling the illustrations to raise funds for the ME association. I'm super excited!
What is your favourite London restaurant?
Andu!! It’s a BYOB vegan Ethiopian restaurant on Kingsland road. Best place in East London, it never disappoints.
Do you have a favourite Book?
I have so many so it’s hard to pick a favourite. I tend to read more nonfiction literature but saying that I’m currently reading a story by the author Murakami about the underworld of contemporary Tokyo called Hard boiled wonderland and the end of the world and so far it’s amazing.
