Muse/Part 1: Zara Martin
Our latest Preen Line Muse is a classic beauty who models by day and DJs by night: career jealousy, anyone? A firm favourite on the London scene, Zara Martin is renowned for spicing up a party and revered for her effortless style.
We caught up with her to find out how her style evolved while growing up in West London, what her top festival dressing tips are and what she’s got coming up this summer...
Where did you grow up?
West London.
Did growing up there influence what you wore?
Yes. Growing up all the girls wore a uniform of bomber jackets, baggy jeans and buffalo boots. I miss those days!
Did your mum influence your style at all?
She is super glam, and always red lips and nails. We dress pretty differently and I don’t wear makeup unless I’m working but I definitely have inherited her vibe of always looking presentable. Which is also debatable!
How did you become a DJ?
A DJ friend bullied me in it.
And you’re enjoying it?
Yes!
What has been the best moment of your career so far?
Falling off stage in Azerbaijan because I was dancing so hard.
What have you got coming up over the summer?
Everything with me is pretty last minute, but over the summer it’s usually all about the music festivals!
What are your three top festival dressing tips?
One, never wear an all in one! Portaloos :( Two: Layer up. Three: Wear comfortable shoes to dance in!
If you weren’t a DJ, what would you be doing?
I would definitely be a race car driver.
What is your go to look?
Jeans, ankle boots, leather jacket. Boring, sorry!
Do you follow trends?
No, that’s far too tiring!
